Biography

Dr. Chengcheng Tao is an assistant professor in the School of Construction Management Technology at Purdue University. Dr. Tao earned her Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida. Prior to joining Purdue, Dr. Tao worked as an ORISE postdoctoral research fellow at DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).

Dr. Tao’s research interests include multi-functional infrastructure materials, sustainable construction materials and manufacturing, rheology of non-Newtonian fluids (e.g., oilwell cement slurries, fresh concrete, liquid epoxy, etc.) with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multi-objective optimization and machine learning applications, hazard-resilient infrastructure, and computational mechanics of materials. Dr. Tao led/co-led research projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Chemical Society (ACS), National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine - Gulf Research Program (NASEM-GRP), Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG), USDOT-UTC-TRANS-IPIC, Department of Energy (DOE) - National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), Purdue Polytechnic Holistic Safety and Security (HSS) research impact area, Purdue Institute for a Sustainable Future (ISF), and Purdue Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship (DUIRI) program. Dr. Tao was selected as the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine - Gulf Research Program (NASEM-GRP) - Early-Career Research Fellow in the Offshore Energy Safety track (2023-2025) and received the American Chemical Society - Petroleum Research Fund (ACS-PRF) - Doctoral New Investigator Award in 2023, Polytechnic Institute Outstanding Faculty in Discovery Award in 2024, SCMT Outstanding Faculty in Discovery Award at Purdue University in 2024 & 2023, the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Faculty Scholars Award in 2022, and the ORISE Postdoctoral Fellowship at DOE-NETL in 2018-2021.
