Biography

Pinar Okumus is an associate professor at the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at University at Buffalo. She earned her PhD degree from University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2012. Her research focus is on precast concrete systems that are rapidly constructed, retrofitted or repaired through the use of new low-damage structural systems or materials. She has conducted research to improve the lifespan and resiliency of infrastructure systems funded by transportation agencies including State Departments of Transportation, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, Federal Highway Administration and US Department of Transportation, as well as the National Science Foundation among others. She is a voting member of several bridge related technical committees at Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, Transportation Research Board and American Concrete Institute.
