Biography
Dr. Sharif has 23 years of progressive experience in academia and engineering. He managed major research and education grants that included collaborators from several institutions during his ten years at UTSA, including leading large multi-institutional consortia to implement national plans. He has 200 journal articles and conference papers. Prior to that, he served as an engineer for eight years, managing numerous multi-million-dollar projects. He has solid inter-institutional experience and has served as a Fulbright Scholar at foreign institutions in addition to offering numerous media interviews (television, radio, and newspapers). His research and professional service experiences have provided him with a broad understanding of the transportation engineering profession, the interaction between transportation systems and the environment, the transportation industry, and university education, research, and outreach programs. He has organized summer transfer academies and K–12 teachers’ workshops for the past seven years with support from NASA and the US Department of Education.
